What is Cinema? It can be defined as the art of colorful moving images enhanced by voices, sounds and music. Telling stories, entertaining and most importantly selling popcorn. Films are cultural artifacts created by specific cultures. They reflect those cultures and affect them too. Film is considered to be an important art form, a source of popular entertainment, and a powerful medium for educating citizens. The visual basis of film gives it a universal power of communication.
Filmmakers from all over the Globe make films with their passion & conviction to reach out to the audience. The canvas at which each project is made depends on the expenses incurred during pre-production, filming, post-production and promotion. This includes buying the rights to the script, music, actor fees, costumes, the set, special effects, marketing etc. So it is not that easy to make a film. A lot of heart is required & every Filmmaker gives his life to the project he is making irrespective of the magnanimity of the Canvas.
For years a clichéd thought has sowed deep into our minds; the more expensive an item the better it is. This irrational ideal of ours has not changed for films. The larger the film budget, the better the film is perceived to be. This notion has led to the depreciation of many low budget films and there has to be an end to this.
Big budget films can afford more expensive actors than other movies, we end up favouring them because of their ‘star cast’.
Today in this world, influence and contacts are the biggest power one can obtain, the investors of these films are highly influential and therefore the entire machinery helps them in the promotion of their films.
I am not making a statement that all big budget films are not good in their content, some are amazing & beautiful, it is that few low budget films are as beautiful & powerful in their own way.
What is a film for? It is a means of entertainment, of relaxation too. It needn’t matter whether the film is a big-budget or one with a lower budget. We need to be more open and receptive towards lower budget films and give them a chance, a chance to show you what they can do. Such talented filmmakers from across the globe go unnoticed just because they don’t have the means to promote their films. And their dreams, their films get buried forever because of that. Talent should not be ignored & buried. It is detrimental to the very essence of Life. Where Mother Nature doesn’t sideline an ant or even bacteria & at the same time takes care of the Blue Whale too. Each harmoniously living in their eco-system.
Fortunately today there are many talented new filmmakers who are making low budget films, thanks to technology, which is providing the means at bare minimum costs. How amazing it is that these filmmakers have followed their gut & made their film without having any backing.
How do these filmmakers promote their film with no money for marketing? With no support. No opening. No big actors. How do they do it then?
Well there are few of them who have been able to find a route & get a breakthrough to get their projects in front of the audience.
Very soon we will chat with such Filmmakers & their team who have gone ahead with their conviction of making a film with nearly no budget, having great actors & a wonderful plot. We will get to know how they have managed to compete in the Big World of Showbiz . . . .
